Christmas Extravaganza!
What do you do if you aren't going to be with family for Christmas? Well, I'll tell you.
You rent out a huge, swanky condo overlooking the best beach in Busan and then invite everyone you know! Add in a potluck dinner, a white elephant gift exchange, a huge plasma TV and sound system, and a jacuzzi bath, and yes, you will achieve a Christmas miracle!
Brittany, Karen and I got the idea to rent out the condo after attending a friend's farewell party in the same building. No other place would do! We got to the place around 2pm, and starting decorating. A group of 10 trickled in over the next hour and a half and starting baking their goods, which included Velveeta Shells (mmmm!), vegetable medley, my mom's 24 hour fruit salad, salad, garlic bread, an Irish man's potatoes (how fitting is that?) and a GIANT turkey and stuffing we ordered from a local restaurant. Plus hour d'ourves, like pinwheel sandwiches, cheese and crackers, candied pecans, chips/salsa...it goes on. We also had homemade cider with a pinch of rum or whiskey. The spices really filled the place with a great smell.
I ate until I was stuffed, and then ate some more. I looked at the turkey and it was only half eaten - I wondered if I should put it away, but I decided not to touch it. More and more people showed up, and the games started. Drunk Jenga was the biggest hit - it's the tower game made of blocks where you pull them out and try not to make it fall over. The "drunk" part comes in when you put instructions on all of the pieces that you must do or drink! It was pretty funny watching people try to balance objects on their heads for periods of time, or try to rhyme with words like "juice." The white elephant was cool, too. Some people brought e
xtra gifts, and since there were a lot of rand-os at the party that came with friends, they were able to play too. I ended up with a mini rolling massager. Score! Then I looked back over at the kitchen table, and the turkey had been picked clean; not one morsel left! There went my leftover turkey sandwiches...
We then discovered we could go to the roof for an amazing view of the city. I took some pictures, but I nearly froze my fingers off, so it was a quick trip! Around three am, after all but 10 people had left, I decided to lock myself in the bathroom and take a jacuzzi bath. It was heaven! Especially since I don't have a tub. Heck, I don't even have a shower! I stand in the corner of my 3" x 3" bathroom, use the nozzel attached beside m
y mirror, and try not to get everything wet! When I got out, everyone was leaving, so Karen and I commandeered the master bed and punted Brittany to the couch. Haha.
I slept like a baby and woke to the sound of ocean waves. I stretched and smiled, very content. And then I walked into the living room and oh. my. goodness. What a mess! We spent a while cleaning and then ate leftovers for breakfast, plus cheese eggs and biscuits while enjoying the view. Sadly, we had to leave at noon and go to work. Bah humbug, I say! Overall, Christmas in Korea was a spectacular success!
