Ahn Seo Lin

I've earned my stripes, apparently! The other day, I went out to eat with my co-workers, and they decided to give me a Korean name. They were very serious about it, and debated for about ten minutes. Eventually they came up with Ahn Seo Lin (Ahnn Saw Leen), based on the sound and meaning of my name. Let me explain.

My everyday name will be just Seo Lin. The Lin was chosen because of the "leen" in Kathleen, obviously. Same with the "Ahn" from "Ann." Then they asked what Kathleen means - "pure." They searched in their electronic dictionaries (yes, they each carry them in their purse! and I want one too!) and then they found a character that means "pure." So, when put together, Ahn Seo Lin means "pure light." Isn't that beautiful? I am very happy with my new name! I'm thinking it could be a very cool tattoo...if only I could remember what the characters looked like! I suppose I should ask for that next...

Oh yeah, another funny translation tidbit: "My mom and I went shopping and then we had impromptu food." Guess who used their thesaurus? Love it! I think I'll use that all the time now, instead of plain ole boring "fast" food. "Impromptu food at Mickey D's, anyone?"
