This Monday past, Debbie, Diane and I decided to have a morning adventure. We packed off to Oncheonjang Station to ride the cable cars up Geumjeong Mountain. The view from the cars was stunning. You could see all of Busan, nestled in between the mountains and ending at the East Sea (or Sea of Japan, but don't tell the Koreans that).
As this was our first time, we didn't realize that

once we got to the top, we would have to hike 20 minutes to get to the first South Gate of the fortress. I had not adequately prepared myself mentally (so early!) or physically (it was straight up!) or with enough time, so we made it to the front gate and then had to turn around and head back so we could be at work by 2. It was really nice for the time we were up there, though. The scenery was great and very relaxing. I would love to spend a full day up there and take a book and my ipod.
There were many older Koreans up

there, hiking or picnicking with their friends. All of them were decked our in extreme hiking gear, including Columbia and North Face vests, walking sticks and the giant visors they are so fond of. Many of them stopped us to ask where we were from. US and Canada! They echoed, with a smile. They also loved the hat that Diane bought for her Dad, a traditional Asian straw hat. They pointed at it and giggled. I think it was a bit out of place, but we thought it was funny.
Apparently the trails go for miles up and around the mountain and there are cliffs and a temple to be seen. I was sad I didn't have enough time, but I was running to work as it was! I've gotten in trouble recently for showing up at 2:01, 2:02, 2:03, so I'm being extra careful this week. Who knew that'd be a big deal? I suppose this is what a real job is all about? Hm...
