East Coast/West Coast Action in the BOG
A few weeks after my return from the Caribbean coast, the Californians came to visit us in BOG. Joe and Armin showed up on my birthday (October 8) and I walked in the house to find tres leches cake waiting for me! Since I had anticipated their arrival (and birthday shenanigans), I also had cold Club Colombia cerveza waiting for us. What a combo! Some great friends joined us for dinner at an Indian restaurant around the corner of my house. I had been wanting to give it a try, and though it was nothing magical, I was still quite pleased to have an Indian fix! After our curries, we went to another local bar and had a few more beverages. Fairly calm for a Wednesday birthday, but perfectly delightful.
The next day I didn't have class, so I escorted the boys around town a bit. We started at the Museo Nacional in La Macarena, which was a prison until 1946 so it was all stone walls and iron doorways. Pretty cool. We had fun wandering through the rooms and trying to guess what the other person's favorite piece was. We were either spot on, or waaaay off. Definitely one of my favorite museum games!
After the museum, I introduced them to one of my favorite places in Bogota: the Bogota Beer Company (BBC), which is the only artisan beer company in Bogota and let me tell you, the beer is a major step up from the national brands. Each label is based on American or European styles and is name after an area of Bogota, such as the BBC Chapinero Porter (my favorite), BBC Candelaria Clasica, Montserrate Roja, Cajicá Honey Ale, BBC Bacatá Blanca (witbeer), the BBC Septimzao IPA, and a few seasonal beers as well. Armin was straight up in heaven, and we spent the afternoon playing Dominoes and drinking beer.

Friday, I had to work so the boys did the graffiti tour and then met me on campus. The afternoon was full of more beers and a home-cooked dinner! Corrie came over and the five of us listended to music and had a chill night in. It was chill because we knew the following day would be INTENSE...mostly because...
KENDALL CAME TO VISIT! That's right, my first official visitor from the A! She told me it was her goal to me my first, and by George she did it! I picked her up at the airport around 1, came home to another (vegan) home-cooked meal (damn, houseguests are awesome!) and then relaxed until it was time to head to da club! I had planned my ultimate birthday shenanigans at Baum, a German electro club in La Macarena and it fulfilled my wildest expectations. We danced our tooshies off, drank a lot of expensive drinks, and chilled on the back patio under the giant baum (tree). It was the wee hours when we made it home but I consider it one of my best clubbin' nights ever.
Sure is fun to have visitors :)
