A Peek at my Colombian Hosts
As I mentioned in the last post, my Colombian student from Georgia Tech, Natalia, offered her family's help when I first arrived. Even though I initially thought I should turn it down, it proved to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience. What could go wrong with a family that helps you navigate the city, cooks you delicious meals, and offers you your own room (while Natalia is still in Atlanta, haha)?? Nothing, of course!
We enjoyed our second Sunday together much as the one before: at the market! This time however, we did the traditional Colombian breakfast on site. It was pretty funny when the host started gabbing to me in Spanish because he thought I was their daughter, and even funnier when he realized I had no idea what he was saying! I can understand when people speak slowly to me, but he had no speed except turbo. I had a lovely potato and fish soup, shared a bit of eggs and rice, and of course, fresh squeezed orange juice. I am very happy to discover that fresh juice is often on the menu!
After we ate, we did the grocery shopping, wandered through the flower market, and tried a few new fruits. Here are a few pics of the family as we dined.
