Ladies Trip to Seoul

Brittany, Haley, Katie and I decided a nice trip to Seoul would be terribly amazing. So we took the KTX (fast train) up to Seoul early Saturday morning. We headed right to our hostel, Banana Backpackers (ha) and set up shop. Then we headed towards Itaewon, where all the foreign food restaurants are because its by the army base, and went to the same Mexican restaurant as Brit and I did on our last trip. It was pretty much a repeat except this time we drank TWO pitchers of margaritas! Joy!

We had a lovely lunch and then we hit up Myeon-dong, which is the huge shopping district in Seoul. I also got to meet up with my friend Alicia, who is from UGA and now teaching in Seoul, so that was a treat. Unfortunately, my decision making skills were a bit impaired and I bought a fun hoodie sweatshirt...regardless of the fact that I'm skipping winter this year in South East Asia. Whatever, it's so cute I'm sure I'll wear it in 1.5 years! Uhhh....

Then it was a mad dash back to our hostel to get gussied up for....RENT! That's right, the musical RENT was playing in Seoul with two members of the original cast! Crazy, but true. I don't know how that happened, but it fit ladies weekend to a T. I had fun playing songs from the soundtrack whilst the others were getting ready, just so they'd get in the spirit. We made it JUST in time, and I had a great time! I think our seats (which were a little to the side) didn't receive the best sound quality, so Haley (who claims she is partially deaf) had trouble understanding. And then decided she hated musicals. Haha. Oh well, they're not for everyone. I had seen the Broadway cast back in Athens, and this was almost as good.

After RENT we went to Honguk University area, which is the happenin' place. We, however, had had a long day and weren't so...happenin. But we found this trendy little hookah Indian bar and had a very chilled out evening. Perfect!

The next morning we woke and shopped around Insadong, the cute little area with many shops and tourists. There was an interesting protest/awareness group about some guy's life (I didn't really understand) but all the Koreans in it were wearing see-through gauzy purple material with flower petals covering their unmentionables. Bizarre. We wandered for a while, I bought a beautiful silk fan, had some tea, and then it was time to catch the train back to Busan!

Good one, ladies.
