Korea Made Me a Superstar
Someone, somehow, at KBS televsion station, got wind of Master Yoon's English Hapkido School and decided to do a 20 minute feature of him and his students. Hence, I am on TV, commenting on the wonders of Korean food and traditional villages. It's sheer artistry.
The filming began at hapkido class. I was unable to go, since I was hacking up both lungs at the time. So sad. Then, the cameraman accompanied us to a small folk village in Gimhae (45 minutes outside Busan), where we were dressed up in hanboks, which are the traditional clothes. We then learned the art of drinking green tea. In case you were wondering, the women daintily cradle the bottom of the cup in the left hand, grasp the cup with their thumb and next two fingers, and finish the drink in 3 sips. It's very ceremonial and actually rather beautiful. Then, we were observed playing traditional Korean games. For example, throwing an arrow-like stick at at stand with a hole in it 10 feet in front of you. I wasn't very good. We also did this jumping see-saw game. I kept falling off, but so did everyone else, so I'm okay with my failure.
We left the village and went home for a break. The last part of the video is us having an "impromptu" dinner party at Haley's house. It was potluck, so I made fruit salad, and others made chili, quesadillas, potato salad, chicken wings, bread, etc. Master Yoon brought a dish, that's called, er, well, I forget, but it's pig's feet! I was interviewed about eating it, and I will tell you now--I was shameless!! I plugged Korean food so well I might as well be Korea's spokeswoman. But dang it, I GOT ON TV!!!
So here's the episode in 2 parts on youtube: Try to ignore the Korean speaking and look at how awkward we all obviously feel as we're being interviewed/have a camera shoved in our face just as we take a bit of something messy. It's brilliant. Two students and a friend called to say they saw me on TV - hence, my superstar status. What what.
Oh, and the Black and White segment is David, pretending to be Master Yoon's FIRST English student 10 years ago. The acting is Oscar-worthy.
Here's the second part:
