Mexican Mermaids

The Tuesday Party Club had another eventful day! This time our membership bumped up to 8! Success!

We met at Haeundae Beach, and walked the length to Dongbaek Island, which isn't actually an island at at all. According to legend, it once was, but now there is a land bridge made of craggy rocks and camellia trees that leads right up to it. Dongbaek means "camellia trees" in Korean, but because it's fall, not much as in bloom. I'll wait for spring.

A beautiful mermaid statue sits atop a mound of boulders at the water's edge. We had fun taking pictures with her, though it was a precarious climb up to her. I read that the statue symbolizes the love story of the princess of Topaz in the Naranda country located beyond the Sea, though I don't know the tale. Sorry to dissapoint! You try finding things in English here...

There were many hiking trails and a nice walkway that led to a tiny lighthouse and a grand view of Gwangali beach. While we were there taking our pictures, a pack of high school boys (around 50) descended upon us. I suppose they were on a field trip and they all shouted "HI! HI! HOW ARE YOU!" repeatedly. It was pretty funny. Luckily we took our scenic shots right before they got there.

After Dongbaek, we went back to Haeundae Beach to a tiny little hole in the wall MEXICAN restaurant! Taco el Pueblo was it's name. I'm not kidding, the whole place was probably 12" x 8." It had a counter with 6 stools and the lady behind the counter who cooked. I had a burrito and it was SO good. I finished it in about three bites. This little place is well known amongst the foriegn population as the ONLY good Mexican in town. I think I might become a regular. Lord knows I need some good ole Mexican food every 2-3 days!

After that, I had to hurry to work, and I was twenty minutes late! Ahh! Luckily, they were cool with it. My co-workers knew where I had been, and they laughed at me. I supposed I shouldn't make this a habit every Tuesday or my manager might start to catch on.
